Medical representatives sell a variety of pharmaceutical products including medicine, surgical products and diagnostic equipment. Instead of targeting ultimate consumers, they normally target businesses such as Hospitals, Clinics, General Practitioners, Specialists’ clinics, Pharmacies, Medical stores and other health and beauty clinics. They also introduce and sell their products at medical conventions and conferences, where they promote and discuss new product developments. This career involves extensive travelling.
Medical sales representatives may have to be away from
home for days or weeks at a time. There is no formal training required
for this career, but normally employers desire bachelor degree preferably
in Pharmacy or Biology however other bachelor degrees in different disciplines
may be accepted. Fresh candidates are welcome in pharmaceutical selling
but experienced ones are preferred by the employers.
